Throw a Crucial Catch!

For x.commerce inno­vate 2011 Hoc­cer teamed up with Pay­Pal and Missionfish.org for show­ing Hoccer’s API abil­i­ties in a whole new way com­pared to what you saw on your phone so far. We coded a WebApp and a dona­tion wall with which a char­ity (in our exam­ple it was the Amer­i­can Can­cer Soci­ety) can col­lect dona­tions for it’s cause. But how does this work?

The char­ity uses one or more large dis­plays or pro­jec­tors to show the dona­tion wall (our exam­ple can be found here) which acts like a black­board where all dona­tions are shown to the audi­ence of an event, a prom or sim­i­lar. Peo­ple who would like to donate use there smart­phone to open a short URL (our exam­ple can be found here), the opened web­site shows a short form where the donor types in his name, an email address, a short com­ment and an amount. To send his dona­tion the donor just makes a throw ges­ture with his phone (or taps a but­ton in case the phone doesn’t sup­port this) and the dona­tion will be shown on the wall includ­ing the name,the com­ment and the amount the donor entered. To pay his dona­tion the donor will receive an invoice using PayPal’s Invoice API

If you want to try our exam­ple just open the wall on your PC using a mod­ern Browser (Chrome, Safari or Fire­fox) and open the WebApp on your phone. But remem­ber: This is real! So please pay your dona­tion . Also we put the code in a pub­lic github repos­i­tory so if you want to use this for own char­ity feel free to use our exam­ple code. Hoccer releases Version 2.2 for iOS

New fea­tures and possibilities

Hoc­cer just released Hoc­cer 2.2 for iOS. This update includes sup­port for iOS 5 and also includes sev­eral new fea­tures includ­ing full video sup­port, so now you can hocc videos with­out any hus­tle. Also this new ver­sion includes sup­port for hoc­cer­ing music out of your device’s iPod. For this Hoc­cer has to con­vert the selected song into a new for­mat, this can take some time and also only DRM-free songs can be con­verted. Here is a quick list of what else has changed in Hoc­cer 2.2 for iOS:

• Sup­port for past­ing con­tent into Hoc­cer: Just select “Paste” in the “Select Content”-Menu or tap and hold in the mid­dle of the Screen.
• A nicer image viewer in the his­tory: In allows you to pinch and zoom just like the Photos-App of your iPhone
• A bet­ter data rep­re­sen­ta­tion: Pho­tos won’t be cropped and vCard Details will be shown on the card.
• Fixed some crashes and issues
• New graph­ics in the tutorial

Neue Fea­tures, neue Möglichkeiten

Hoc­cer hat grade Hoc­cer 2.2 für iOS veröf­fentlicht. Das neue Update bringt Sup­port für iOS 5 und enthält einige neue Fea­tures, wie zum Beispiel voller Sup­port für Videos und außer­dem voller Sup­port für Musik. Es ist jetzt also möglich Songs aus dem iPod des Geräts per Hoc­cer an andere Geräte zu versenden. Dafür müssen die Songs allerd­ings von Hoc­cer kon­vertiert wer­den, was etwas Zeit in Anspruch nehmen kann, außer­dem kön­nen nur DRM-freie Songs kon­vertiert wer­den. Hier eine kurze Liste der son­sti­gen Änderun­gen in Hoc­cer 2.2 für iOS:

• Unter­stützung für das Ein­fü­gen von Inhal­ten: Ein­fach “Paste” im “Select Content”-Menü auswählen oder ein­fach irgendwo in der Mitte des Bild­schirm tip­pen und gedrückt hal­ten. Es wird dann der Inhalt der sys­temweiten Zwis­chen­ablage eingefügt.
• Besseres Bild­be­tra­chter in der His­tory: Er erlaub “Pinch and Zoom” wie die Fotos-App von iOS.
• Bessere Daten­präsen­ta­tion: Fotos wer­den nicht mehr zusam­mengeschnit­ten und vCards zeigen jetzt Details, inklu­sive Foto, an.
• Ein paar Bugs und Absturz­gründe behoben,
• Bessere Graphiken im Tutorial

New WebApp

Good news everyone!

We revamped the Hoc­cer WebApp! First of all, we gave the WebApp a com­plete new design and user inter­face. We also made some changes on how you use the WebApp. You are now able to select your mobile device or even another WebApp which runs on the same loca­tion, so you are able to exchange con­tent between two WebApps. We also added a mobile theme. So you can use Hoc­cer with peo­ple, who haven‘t installed Hoc­cer on their device yet. The mobile theme also sup­ports Black­ber­rys. Last but not least, you can reach the WebApp now under hocc.it! It was never eas­ier to exchange data!

We are always open to new sug­ges­tions to improve the user expe­ri­ence, so feel free to con­tact us!

Wir haben die Hoc­cer WebApp kom­plett überar­beitet! Sie hat nicht nur ein neues Design und User Inter­face bekom­men, sie ist jetzt auch ein­facher zu benutzen. Du kannst jetzt Geräte in Deiner Nähe mit der WebApp verbinden, dies kann sogar eine andere WebApp sein. Außer­dem haben wir ein Mobile Theme hinzuge­fügt. Jetzt kannst Du Hoc­cer Men­schen Zeigen, die die App noch nicht auf ihrem Gerät instal­liert haben. Das Mobile Theme unter­stützt außer­dem Black­ber­rys. Du kannst die WebApp unter hocc.it erre­ichen. Es war nie ein­facher Daten auszutauschen.

New features for the wall

From today on there is a new release of Hoc­cer­Wall online. We have built in some new fea­tures with which you may already famil­iar from the lat­est ver­sion of our clients on smart­phones. Because we imple­mented our newest func­tion­al­ity to the javascript-api you may now for exam­ple not only restrict your wall to the last sender but all clients in your area.

Fea­ture list:

• Nam­ing the Wall - There is a new option in the settings-window avail­able for giv­ing your wall a cus­tom name with which it can be seen and iden­ti­fied by all clients grouped with the wall. It is now pos­si­ble to announce your wall to an audi­ence by sim­ply shar­ing the name with them. By that peo­ple can select your wall to directly send pic­tures to wall with­out dis­turb­ing clients nearby.
• Client list and selected clients — As a new option you can view all the clients in your area by click­ing on the new link above the well known settings-button. The num­ber there you find will show you the num­ber of all clients in your area if you do not select some or if selected the total num­ber of selected clients. You now can restrict usage of the wall to a spe­cific group of clients iden­ti­fied by their own name. This fea­ture has also been imple­mented in all of our mobile clients and we are glad to make it avail­able at Hoc­cer­Wall for you today.

Com­ing with those new fea­tures there are some changes for the javascript-api as well. We imple­mented core func­tion­al­ity into the API such as the peek-method, which is designed to show all client grouped with your client. In addi­tion for all our JavaScript-Developers it is now pos­si­ble to name your WebApp, select clients in your group for restricted send and receive or to just delete your own client instan­ta­neously for a clean clos­ing. You can view those meth­ods and how to use them in our javascript-api-documentation.

Ab heute ist die neue Ver­sion der Hoc­cer­Wall online. Damit haben wir den Funk­tion­sum­fang der Wall erweit­ert und bieten nun auch die aus den let­zten Ver­sio­nen der Clients für Smart­phones bekan­nten Funk­tio­nen an. Da wir dazu auch unsere JavaScript-Api erweit­ert haben, ist es nun zum Beispiel möglich den Emp­fang der Wall nicht nur auf den let­zten Sender zu beschränken son­dern auf jeden Client in der Umgebung.

Neue Funk­tio­nen:

• Gib der Wall einen Namen — Mit einer neuen Option unter den bekan­nten Wall-Einstellungen ist es nun möglich jeder Wall einen eige­nen Namen zu geben, der von allen grup­pierten Clients gese­hen wer­den kann. Es ist jetzt mögliche die eige­nen Wall einem Pub­likum über den Namen bekannt zu geben. Andere Nutzer kön­nen nun die Wall auswählen um Bilder direkt und ohne Störung anderer Nutzer an die Wall zu senden.
• Die Clientliste und aus­gewählte Clients — In einem neuen Fen­ster, dass durch einen Knopf ober­halb des Info-Buttons aktiviert wird, kön­nen nun alle anderen Hoc­cer­Clients in der Umge­bung angezeigt wer­den. Die Anzahl der ver­füg­baren Clients wird als Zahl angezeigt. Wird einer oder mehrere Clients aus­gewählt, stellt der Knopf nur die Anzahl der aus­gewählten Clients dar. Es ist jetzt möglich die Benutzung der Wall nur für eine bes­timmte Gruppe von Clients freizugeben, die über ihren eige­nen Namen iden­ti­fiziert wer­den kön­nen. Wir freuen uns diese Funk­tio­nen, die auch schon in anderen Hoc­cer­Clients imple­men­tiert sind auch auf der Wall zur Ver­fü­gung stellen zu können.

Im Zusam­men­hang mit diesen neuen Funk­tio­nen haben wir auch die JavaScript-Api angepasst. Wir haben die API um die “peek”-methode erweit­ert, so dass nun auch über JavaScript Clients die Teil­nehmer ihrer Gruppe anzeigen lassen kön­nen. Zusät­zlich ist nun für JavaScript-Entwickler mögliche mit ihren WebAp­p­lika­tio­nen Namen zu set­zen, aus­gewählte Clients zu übergeben oder den eige­nen Client sauber beim Hoc­cerServer zu löschen. Die neuen und alten Meth­o­den kön­nen in unserer JavaScript-Api-Dokumentation nachge­le­sen werden.

Hoccer zu Gast beim PayPal Partnerevent

Hoc­cer wurde von Pay­Pal (Dtld.) zum jährlichen Part­nerevent am 06. Juni 2011 in das Museum Ham­burger Bahn­hof ein­ge­laden. Vor rund 100 E-Commerce-Unternehmen und Online-Händlern demon­stri­erte unser CEO Pavel Mayer zukün­ftige Möglichkeiten des dig­i­talen Geld­trans­fers. Mit soge­nan­nten “Hoclets” kön­nen dynamis­che Web-Inhalte in Apps dargestellt wer­den, mit deren Hilfe unter anderem die gestenges­teuerte Übertra­gung von Geld­be­trä­gen zwis­chen inter­net­fähi­gen Endgeräten abge­bildet wer­den kann.

Because we wanted to use the Hoc­cer Wall for our Linc­cer Tech Talk at Droid­con Berlin, we added a use­ful Lock–Fea­ture:

If restrict to last thrower is acti­vated, the Wall will only dis­play con­tent which comes from who ever had thrown the lat­est pic­ture. So if you like to give a pre­sen­ta­tion and don’t want to be interruped:

1. Browse to http://wall.hoccer.com
2. Tog­gle your Browser to dis­play the page Fullscreen
3. Open the options (but­ton in the lower right corner)
4. Set your loca­tion, if not detected automaticly
5. Throw an image with your iOS or Android Client
6. Acti­vate Restirct to last thrower
7. Show off!

Hoccer Wall goes live!

We’ve first pre­viewed the upcom­ing Hoc­cer Wall at the Always-On Fes­ti­val in Berlin:

As you can see, the Wall sim­ply dis­plays all images which are thrown at the cur­rent loca­tion. From now on every­one can use this local­ized zero-conf pre­sen­ta­tion tool by brows­ing to wall.hoccer.com. Because this Web App is such a great demon­stra­tion of using our Linc­c­ing Ser­vice, we pub­lished the code at GitHub.

We’ve got great feed­back after the Always-On Fes­ti­val: Radio SWR2 aired a ger­man radio fea­ture and the Ger­man TV broad­caster Alex Berlin recorded the whole event (to be aired at 9. March 2011, 20:15).

Hoccer 2.0

We have finally released Hoc­cer 2.0 for Android, iOS and the Web! The look and feel has not changed much but the new Linc­cer back­end improves usabil­ity enor­mously: Hand­shak­ing two devices is ultra fast and file up– and down­load will hap­pen at the same time as can be seen by the progress bars:
